Job Description:

Processes permits - receives permits and project applications and verifies all information necessary for plan review; routes to plan reviewers for review; issues permit number; maintains electronic and paper files. Serves as the first point of contact for customers to aid with building permit policies and procedures. Assists citizens/customers of the department in a friendly, courteous, professional manner using clear oral and written business communications. Creates customer accounts in Citizen Serve permitting software for portal access to permits and ability to schedule inspections. Maintains licensing database and verifies contractor licensing and insurance requirements per Florida Statutes. Receives and schedules requests for building inspections for out-of-town inspections. Accepts payment for permits, inputs payment information into permitting software, and issues permits to verified signees. 

Create permit files in Citizen Serve and properly review file information when BIM/ACC projects are initiated. Acts as a department liaison with PD&C Planning Design and Construction relating to the BIM/ACC platform. Creates reviews as necessary for BIM/ACC projects. Update property files within permitting software to reflect new building numbers and addresses. Create permit files in Citizen Serve for other associated agencies, i.e., School Board of Alachua County, University of North Florida, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.

Acts as administrative support for Building Codes, Pest Control Management, Fire Equipment Management. Accepts and direct calls to Pest Control; use the University’s pest control software to notify Pest Control of issues in a timely manner. Screen calls and refers questions to appropriate EH&S staff or department. Complete CODES inbox and drop box management.

Acts as a backup to departmental receptionist by answering and directing calls to the appropriate staff or department within EH&S.

Operate UF vehicle(s) and perform other duties as assigned.

Work hours: Monday through Friday, 08:00AM to 05:00 PM

A criminal background will be conducted.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION & TRAINING: EXPERIENCE: Experience in a professional office setting. KNOWLEDGE:

- - Knowledge of general office procedures.

- - Knowledge of techniques necessary for handling telephone calls in a courteous and efficient manner.

- - Knowledge of basic filing practices

- - Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Drop Box

- - Knowledge using Outlook for meetings, email, and contacts

- - Knowledge using Adobe Acrobat as a PDF viewer and document creator and modifier

- - Knowledge of Construction terminology SKILLS: ABILITIES:

- Ability to use personal computer in a productive manner.

- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in a courteous manner.

- Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments to meet deadlines.

- Ability to independently research issues and solve problems.

- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationship with co-workers and extended campus personnel.

- Ability to perform duties in an accurate, timely and confidential manner.

- Ability to pay close attention to document and financial details in a busy environment as this position is subject to distractions.

- Ability to work independently with minimal instruction.
