Classification Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Description:

This position, part of the Payroll and Tax Services department within the CFO Division, is responsible for providing customer service for questions about paychecks and manual adjustments. This position also performs various query analysis to review for accurate payroll and requires knowledge of University regulations and Federal tax laws.

 

  • Customer Service: Provide intermediate-level support to University departments on payroll topics. Requires comprehensive understanding of the payroll calendar, processes affecting employees’ pay, benefit plans including leave plans, University leave policies, use of Time Reporting Codes, and an understanding of the University’s compensation policies (regular, special, overtime). Conduct pay analysis for retros and complex scenarios with multiple pay/FTE changes. Interpret payroll tax and deduction rules, including withholding, FICA alternative, student FICA exemption, and pre/post/deferred tax deductions.

 

  • Adjustment Processing and Payroll Closing: Prepare and process payroll adjustments for biweekly and off-cycle payrolls. Enter HR-provided corrections. Alternate on closing payroll and provide additional coverage as needed.

 

  • Query and Analysis and Documentation: Run and analyze payroll queries, reconcile discrepancies, and implement timely corrections to ensure biweekly accuracy. Apply detailed knowledge of salary plans, employee record numbers, effective dates (hire/termination and payment start/stop), earnings codes, and FTEs to analysis. Creates and maintains workflow documentation.

 

  • Special Projects: Performs a variety of special projects as needed
Expected Salary:

$53,000.00 - $60,000.00

Preferred:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with payroll systems.
  • Strong analytical skills for pay reconciliation, retros, and multiple FTE/pay rate change scenarios.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex pay scenarios clearly and concisely.
  • Process improvement mindset.

Ability to work and maintain effective working relationships with others; to understand, interpret, and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; to complete work according to scheduled deadlines; to work with limited supervision; to utilize problem solving techniques and to work independently.
