Job Description:

This position is part of a collaborative team that supports online courses and programs within CALS and UF/IFAS through the CALS Faculty Instructional Resources and Support Team (FIRST) in the CALS Dean’s Office. The Instructional Designer III provides strategic and operational leadership to the FIRST Instructional Design Team and collaborates with other FIRST operational areas, including the Video Production Team.

The position involves partnering with faculty and staff in the design, revision, and continual improvement of student-centered online and hybrid courses for undergraduate and graduate programs, facilitating meeting the highest standards of UF’s online course quality review. The Instructional Designer III contributes to ongoing efforts to strengthen faculty development and support by promoting effective teaching practices and continuous improvement in online learning.

What You’ll Do:

In this role, you will combine leadership, collaboration, and hands-on instructional design to support high-quality online and hybrid teaching across CALS and UF/IFAS.

Lead and support the CALS FIRST Instructional Design Team by setting strategic direction, establishing workflows and best practices, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment. You will supervise TEAMS and OPS staff, coordinate work assignments, support professional development, and collaboratively manage the team’s faculty support initiatives and processes.

Guide faculty development and instructional design initiatives by leading the design and delivery of synchronous and asynchronous workshops and communities of practice that support effective course design, instructional delivery, and emerging topics in teaching and learning.

Partner with faculty and staff on course design and improvement, working individually and as part of project teams to develop, revise, and review student-centered online and hybrid courses, with a focus on online course quality standards and authentic learning and assessment. You will help instructors apply current teaching pedagogies by supporting learning objective development, course alignment, instructional materials and activity design, assessment strategies, use of instructional technologies, and accessible learning environments.

Collaborate across teams and units by working closely with other FIRST operational areas, including the Video Production Team, and coordinating with IFAS and UF partners to support online learning projects and continuous quality improvement efforts.

Contribute to strategic planning and operational improvement for FIRST by providing recommendations on instructional technologies, supporting project management processes, and helping maintain documentation, workflows, and communication practices that support team effectiveness.

Stay current with best practices in online teaching and learning and share that expertise with colleagues and instructors to support consistent, high-quality, student-centered online instruction.

Expected Salary:

$73,000 - $80,000 commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience.

Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology or an appropriate area of specialization and four years of relevant experience, including instructional design and faculty development in higher education.
  • Teaching experience in higher education is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of and experience applying: instructional design and learning theory principles; authentic learning and assessment; accessibility and quality standards for online courses; current and emerging instructional technologies; and effective higher education online learning environments.
  • Experience in online course development and in advising and training online instructors.
  • Project management experience with multiple or large projects.
  • Experience managing staff or teams.
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate professionally in a collaborative, team-based environment and apply innovative solutions to learning challenges.
