Job Description:

Micrographic Surgery (Moh's) - Processes tissue specimens using cryo-techniques associated with Moh's and excisional surgery. Standard and histological techniques for subsequent evaluation and diagnosis by the attending dermatologists will be prepared.

Accessioning - May be responsible for accessioning dermatopathology specimens received in the lab if needed.

Grossing - Qualifies for high-complexity testing of surgical specimens by a non-pathologist. Prints tissue cassettes and performs the gross dissection of all dermatology specimens for histology processing.

Histology - Embeds dermatology specimens in accordance with established paraffin embedding protocols. Prepares slides for routine and specialized histology by sectioning paraffin tissue blocks. Stains slides with routine H&E as well as IHC and histochemistry staining techniques for diagnostic evaluation by the Dermatopathologists. Responsible for entering stain and recut requests on the computer as well as distribution and computer documentation of completed slides. Contributes to meeting the production goals as set by the department.

Laboratory Maintenance - Contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory equipment, temperature and maintenance logs, and filing of slides and blocks. 

Expected Salary:

$28-$32/hr 

Minimum Requirements:

Licensed or temporarily licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated and for which the laboratory is licensed under Chapter 483, Florida Statutes, and two years of appropriate experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Two to five years of histology laboratory experience including processing of patient specimens, frozen sections for rapid diagnosis, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.

Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are required.

Other responsibilities include the ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, problem-solve, and function in a team environment.
