Job Description: |
Intake/Slide control: Receive and track slides/cases to and from UF Health Pathology Laboratories locations. Distribute slides to the appropriate Pathologist. Maintain records of slides received and their distribution points. Assist UF Health Pathology Laboratories intake personnel in locating slides that have been distributed to Pathologists. Return and track slides to UF Health Pathology satellite laboratory. Maintain records of slides returned. Maintain slide count/case count per service as needed.
AP Accessions: Prepare Anatomic Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Accession internal AP Consults directed to UFHPL Surgical Pathology. Unpacks specimens and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as staging of slides, blocks, and other specimens. Document problem specimens and resolve issues.
AP Reporting and Editing: Update all pending cases with assigned pathologist; produce preliminary medical reports for daily slides from histology. Edit draft reports or follow up with satellite lab. Maintain files, send out reports as requested.
Triage: Accurately receive and record incoming specimens/slides/blocks into daily receipt log, Document and record issues. Pre-accession (receive) specimens, orders tests, print out labels and attaches to paperwork and specimen container, print Test Order form – then deliver to appropriate lab and specimen to designated location. Forwards copy of report to appropriate in-house physician/lab. Registration: Collects patient demographics and insurance information and ensures required details are included on forms. Verify insurance coverage and all patient identity issues before accessioning. Create and modify submitters in EPIC LIS according to departmental procedure.
Department Support: Distribution of departmental mail; handling incoming calls to UF Surgical Pathology. Faculty support as assigned.
CP Accessions: Prepare Clinical Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as staging of specimens, centrifuge, separate serum, and blood smears. Aliquots sample for departments. Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and document problem specimens. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
