This position is responsible for advancing the Office of Research within the College of Health and Human Performance by evaluating critical areas of need and working closely with the Associate Dean, the faculty, and the research administrative team to promote the College’s research mission. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Research. In addition, this position is the College Representative to UF Core Offices including DSP-Proposals, DSP-Awards, Contracts & Grants, Office of Technology & Licensing, etc. and to external funding agency administrative offices, and to other institutional Sponsored Research offices. Furthermore, this position will cooperate with other College units to enhance the College’s research, development and philanthropic activities. The College-level position supports the faculty of four departments, in obtaining sponsored research funds, providing good stewardship of current awards, and protecting the College from risk of payments related to audit findings. Two Research Administration IlI positions and one Research Administrator ll position report directly to the Associate Director position.
Proposal and Award Administration at College Level
• Scope of knowledge must encompass multi-level policies from proposing, receiving, managing, and closing sponsored research projects. Including at a minimum, analysis of fund need and historic fund expenditures for budgeting, effort for research without impacting teaching, human resources policies, tenure and promotion process, sabbatical as it affects research, fellowships as non-employees, graduate student contract, in-unit faculty contract, international employment, Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUCC) policies, international compliance risks, cost accounting standards, travel policies, human subject payments, and federal and non-federal guidance. The vast array of knowledge cannot be minimized – it covers all aspects of the university and is essential in this position.
• Final and comprehensive review of proposals and contracts at College level for full compliance; communication of red flag issues to Associate Dean for Research and Chairs; professional, succinct, and kind communication of review outcome to faculty
• Utilize expertise in UF’s Integrated Research Support Tool (UFIRST) in proposal, awards, and modifications
• Research and teach all electronic platform proposal and reporting submission systems
• Coach and instruct new faculty in the entire research process and policies at the University of Florida
• Absorb workload associated with doubling of research expenditures every 5 years (historically and aspiration) by continual evaluation and streamlining of processes
• Support growth of research active faculty by transferring funding and onboarding (proposed: significant number of new hires)
• Resolve problems arising from the team and from departments by detailed investigation utilizing critical and creative thinking while practicing good judgement; intercede to resolve conflicts between departments and UF central offices
Leadership at College Level
• Promote a culture of compliance and advocacy of HHP faculty
• Actively build trust with team, with faculty, with administration, and with central UF offices
• Directly supervise, coach, mentor, support, and provide high levels of professional development for three college-level research administrators by modeling and teaching critical thinking, flexibility, re-direction, ability to locate resources, and policy interpretation.
• Cross-train staff; this position is back up to all team members
• Provide support to fiscal staff in the departments as needed and requested
• Set high expectations for HHP to be a model for research administrative support and do all with good cheer
• Support and encourage team member initiatives; advance failure as a teaching tool
• Support Research activities University-wide by representing HHP on committees and providing insight to UF leadership
• Support College initiatives and programs

• Oversight of departments as appropriate.
• Initiate and oversee systems of personnel distribution to research projects, tied to effort reporting, progress reports to agencies, reconciliation, internal controls, and monitoring
