OPS Instructional Designer, Shelter Medicine Program

The Shelter Medicine Program is seeking an Instructional Designer to support its educational programs for veterinary students and working professionals. These programs include online and in-person elective courses, field experiences, the Professional Certificate in Shelter Medicine, and conferences related to the care of animals in shelters and marginalized communities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN:
• Advise and guide faculty, instructors, and staff in designing a comprehensive educational program, including course/project scope, timeline, materials, continuity of formatting, course accessibility and inclusivity, and program outcome assessments.
• Develop new course content, major revisions, activities, and assessments in collaboration with faculty, adhering to established timelines.
• Order Canvas course shells, maintain and edit course materials in Canvas and Pressbooks, and monitor online courses for functionality, accessibility, and usability.
• Support faculty in updating course syllabi and complying with departmental, college, and university course requests, reports, policies, and deadlines.
• Solicit student and faculty feedback through formal and informal course evaluations, including GatorEvals, surveys, and professional audits. Evaluate feedback and implement course revisions in consultation with faculty.
• Analyze potential issues within the program or curriculum, determine who needs to be consulted or updated, investigate root causes of errors and barriers to meeting educational and customer service goals, and propose solutions.

STUDENT SERVICES AND ENGAGEMENT:
• Provide information and advice to current and prospective students, faculty, and others on academic programs. Support student tracking for externships, certificate progress, clerkships, and program completion logistics. Coordinate student accessibility accommodations as needed.
• Write and distribute student announcements related to course offerings, extracurricular activities, and important deadlines. Create a welcoming and engaging educational environment that encourages open dialogue with students and enthusiasm for the field of Shelter Medicine.
• Identify learners who are not progressing as expected and proactively consult with faculty to identify and resolve barriers to success.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:
• Maintain, update, and archive course development project folders.
• Provide direct support to program operations, including coordinating calendars and facilitating monthly all-team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

$25.00 / hour

• Education or equivalent experience in principles of pedagogy, adult learning, active learning, assessments, and universal design for accessibility.
• Experience in instructional design and learning management systems.
• Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Working knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, commonly used software tools, including WordPress, Basecamp, MailChimp, Canvas, Zoom, H5P, Pressbooks, and Google Suite.
• Fluency in Internet usage and research.

• Experience working with faculty teams for the development of new courses, major revisions, and maintenance editing.
• Mastery of Canvas course design tools.
• Experience in instructional design for health professions.
• Experience with project management.
• Familiarity with animal welfare and/or veterinary medicine.
