Job Description:

The Florida Trail Association (FTA) builds, maintains, protects, and promotes the Florida National Scenic Trail, one of only 11 National Scenic Trails in the US. Through conservation, recreation, advocacy, and education, we connect people to Florida’s unique outdoor landscapes. Our Next Generation Internship Program empowers young leaders to explore professional pathways in trails, land management, environmental advocacy, and nonprofit management. 

The Marketing Intern will support FTA’s communications strategy by designing creative assets, developing original website and social media content, and coordinating digital outreach projects. From launching a “Meet the Staff” spotlight series to designing branded merchandise and planning interactive social media campaigns, the Marketing Intern will bring fresh ideas and energy to our engagement efforts. 

They will play a lead role in coordinating a new video series campaign, which highlights the diverse stories and values of Florida Trail users, interns, and volunteers. In addition to their individual projects, the Marketing Intern will contribute to a collaborative group project alongside other Next Gen interns that runs throughout the internship term. 

  • Social Media Series Management
    • Plan and launch an intern spotlight series
    • Develop rotating editorial calendar for social features
    • Coordinate video submissions for fellow interns 
  • Trail Community Video Project
    • Lead planning and production of a recurring short-form video series
    • Interview FTA staff, volunteers, and partners to capture their trail stories
    • Schedule, film, edit and publish video content 
  • Creative Content and Design Projects
    • Design and launch a FNST sticker pack 
    • Draft themed content for seasonal campaigns like “Why We Hike”
    • Source and analyze examples from other organizations for content inspiration
    • Produce visuals and graphics for social media, as needed 
  • Day in the Life Features
    • Coordinate and publish monthly staff/intern features
    • Collect mini-interviews and “fun” videos to humanize FTA’s behind-the-scenes work
    • Edit and post features as reels and youtube shorts 

This is a hybrid position. Interns will be expected to work some hours in-person at FTA’s Gainesville office. There will be occasional opportunities for travel to events or field locations. 

Expected Salary:

$14/hour 

Minimum Requirements

This is a Federal Work Study position. Those not eligible for Federal Work Study may apply through Gator CareerLink (https://career.ufl.edu/services-resources/gator-careerlink/).

This internship is 10-15 hours a week and will run from September 2, 2025 - May 1, 2026.

Must be able to commit to the entire length of the internship program and fulfill weekly hour requirements.

Preferred:
  • Passionate about outdoor storytelling, trail culture, or nonprofit communications
  • Strong writer and communicator with a clear, upbeat tone
  • Familiar with social media and graphic design sites (Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, Canva, etc.)
  • Creative, self-directed, highly organized
  • Passionate about the creative idea process, brainstorming and developing projects
  • Comfortable interviewing others and managing a social media presence
  • Design, journalism, marketing, or communications majors preferred but not required
  • Experience in graphic design, videography and editing, or social media strategy preferred but not required
  • Ability to commit to the entire length of the internship program and fulfill weekly hours requirement
