Job Description:

Metering and Equipment Repair and Installation. Repairs or replaces existing chilled water meters, steam meters, totalizers, and associated equipment as needed. Oversees the calibration of these devices when applicable. Coordinates the installation of chilled water, steam, and totalizer meters with internal and external UF personnel and vendors including utility outages when necessary. Assists in selecting the most appropriate meter style and size for the service application in accordance with the UF standards and industry standards. Assists the Electric and Water metering technician with developing/troubleshooting the electronic delivery of meter readings. Assists in repairing or replacing potable water and electric meters to insure proper operation and readings.

Technical Programming. Programs the BTU totalizers to read the meters correctly. Programs the totalizers into the Johnson Controls Metasys system. Sets up all systems in the Skyspark for automatic readings into the billing system and coordinate the points to be uploaded in the AiM ESP enterprise database. Works in Delta and Skyspark primarily, Siemens and JCI Metasys software to build points and develop mathematical readings in ton hours and pounds for bringing in utility billing and energy data. Utilizes knowledge of BACnet and assists with the energy management network as needed. Utility Energy Meters Calibration and PMs. Assists with billing to correct errors, verify reading accuracy, and field check meters as needed. Provides meter data sheets on all new or replacement meters. Collects ongoing of metering information to ensure metering billing database reflects most accurate for appropriate billing of utilities. This includes working with other departments, university staff, and external contractors to verify (a) what buildings/equipment meters serve and (b) parent/master/service/ upstream/downstream/meters relationship. Analyzes the JCI Metasys billing query metering database for timely, accurate reporting of metering information and for early detection of meters failed to report and troubleshoot for re-establishing communications. Assists with meter readings as needed. Ensures Meter Data Sheets (MDS) are completed accurately and at the time of connections / disconnections are made to the UF’s utility grids. In addition, MDSs are turned in for replacement meters to update utility billing database. Accurately reads blueprint drawings to ensure meter captures energy usage for of expected space and document what the meter serves.

Purchasing/Review and Inspection. Assists with managing the $400k annual metering budget among all utilities based on set allocations. Follows proper purchasing and utilities purchasing policies for maximizing the monetary resources appropriately. Review’s drawings of new and existing construction for ensuring chilled water and steam metering meets UF Design and Construction Standards. Develops and is responsible for the chilled water, steam, and totalizer meters’ Preventive Maintenance Program for ensuring accurate utility metering as well as benchmarking similar applications for detecting potential metering issues.

Valid Florida Driver’s license required at time of appointment.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday, 07:30 a.m. to 04:00 p.m. - total hours per week 40.

Some metering installations and repairs require outages outside typical business hours

Expected Salary:

$27.00 to $32.00 Based on Experience

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred:

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

- Associate’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience or a high school diploma and eight years of appropriate experience

- Qualifications in electronic control systems

- Experience in mapping points for bringing in metering data to the JCI Metasys software

KNOWLEDGE

- Familiarity with Delta enteliWEB, Skyspark, JCI Metasys software for programming, diagnostics, and troubleshooting (required)

- Knowledge of blueprint reading for determining piping configuration

- Familiarity with arc flash protective safety regulations for working on medium voltage equipment

- Knowledge of computers and relevant software

SKILLS

- Mechanical skills for installing communication equipment

- Electronic skills

ABILITIES

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision (required)

- Troubleshooting abilities
