Job Description:

The Experiential Learning and Career Advisor will leverage industry-related experience (non-profits, public, and private sectors) and an appreciation of the liberal arts and sciences education to provide individual guidance to CLAS students as they evaluate career paths and pursue internship or full-time employment options. In collaboration with Beyond120 faculty, staff, and other partners, the Experiential Learning and Career Advisor provides an added level of support necessary to prepare CLAS students for career success. Career Coaches also serve an important role in supporting the Partnership Development Specialist in developing and maintain meaningful relationship with employers to expand opportunities for current and future students. Career Coaches serve as mentors, coaches, advisors, and ultimately are champions for experiential learning and focused on the success of CLAS students.

Direct Student Professional Development Advising

  • Serves as a career coach for CLAS students to advance career and professional development.
  • Provides individual or group career coaching to students to develop new career plans in topics such as interviewing skills, job search strategies, developing and refining resume writing, application procedures and strategies, networking, and general career decision-making strategies.
  • Provides knowledge and expertise on experiential learning opportunities and supports student involvement through knowledge of resources, departmental contacts, college and university programs.
  • Identify partnership and collaboration efforts to highlight experiential learning opportunities across campus and elevate Beyond120 offerings.

Excursion Program Management

  • Serves as the main point of contact for planning, implementing, and assessing Beyond120’s career-focused excursions designed to help students explore professional pathways and strengthen transferable skills.
  • Develops learning outcomes and integrates academic and career connections into excursion experiences to ensure alignment with Beyond120’s educational mission.
  • Facilitates mentorship connections between students, alumni, and employers participating in excursions to deepen learning and engagement.
  • Collaborates with the Partnership Development Specialist to identify and coordinate employer site visits, professional interactions, and career exploration opportunities.
  • Oversees logistical coordination, participant preparation, and post-excursion reflection and assessment processes.

 Student Engagement & Ambassador Program Management

  • Coordinates and manages the creation of career readiness programs and resources targeted to students across all College units.
  • Collaborates with the Partnership and Employer Engagement Specialist as they engage employers to create opportunities for students.
  • Customizes programs, services, and resources to advance Beyond120’s career engagement plan to support the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Leads the Beyond120 Ambassador Program, which also serves as the College’s ambassador cohort, including recruiting and training ambassadors, running meetings, coordinating tours, supporting college events, and advancing ambassador professional and leadership development.
  • Engages ambassadors in outreach to CLAS students and alumni to promote Beyond120 initiatives and represent the College.

 Administrative

  • Maintains quantitative and qualitative records for various types of interactions for assessment and reporting purposes to demonstrate impact. Tracks and reports on student engagement.
  • Maintains and updates existing resources and documentation for career and professional development.
  • Conducts research and prepares reports as directed. Stays current with trends, resources, and research related to career and professional development.
  • Collaborates with the Beyond120 team to promote programs, services, events, resources, internships, and employment opportunities to students.
  • Prepares recommendations and identifies opportunities for growth to align with university and state-level mandates and strategic plans.
  • Responsible for tracking engagement efforts and proposing direction for career advising to increase effectiveness.

 Other Duties as Assigned

Expected Salary:

$46,000 - $56,000

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an appropriate field or a bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience.

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of career counseling and student development
  • Understanding of and ability to articulate the value of liberal arts and sciences education
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to interpret academic program requirements and provide advice
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously
  • Demonstration of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituencies, and the ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to utilize problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of career counseling tools and resources.
