This position serves as the manager of operations for the Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) Diabetes program – a program that has been in operation at UF since 2018 that provides tele-education to primary care providers (PCPs) throughout the State of Florida and nationally. The manager of operations oversees daily operations for ECHO Diabetes, including managing personnel (Diabetes Support Coaches, DSC) that are embedded within community healthcare settings throughout Florida, managing project budgets and approving purchase requests of DSC, managing project assets, and ensuring the DSC program protocols adhere to best practices for community-based health coaches. This position is in Gainesville, FL, on the UF campus, but oversees a team of remote DSCs in 10 counties across FL (Hillsborough, Miami-Dade, Polk, Leon, Duval, Orange, Hernando, Collier, Alachua, and Monroe). The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional who excels at relationship-building, communication, and cross-functional program management. This position reports directly to the PI and Director of the program, Dr. Ashby Walker, and serves on a leadership (hub) team, which includes multidisciplinary UF faculty and staff from The College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP), The College of Medicine (COM), The College of Pharmacy (COP), and UF Health Shands.
Program Management
This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the Diabetes Support Coaches (DSCs) embedded in community health centers across Florida. This position plans and coordinates ECHO Diabetes activities by scheduling work reporting requirements, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees. This includes ensuring (through documentation), through appropriate documentation, that all DSCs complete mandatory trainings and certifications required (certifications required by the ECHO Diabetes program, HIPAA compliance trainings and human subjects research trainings, UF HR trainings, trainings required by the local community health centers) and ensuring that DSC comply with all mandatory protocols for the ECHO Diabetes program. This position also oversees the conduct of other ECHO Diabetes personnel when they engage with community partners (e.g., clinical or research staff). This position establishes and holds weekly meetings with the DSC and senior leadership of the ECHO Diabetes program to ensure strong communication within and across the program’s core leadership team. This position serves as a link between management (ECHO Diabetes hub team) and DSC by handling questions, interpreting and administering policies/procedures, and resolving work-related problems.
Program Coordination
This position participates in establishing operational goals and objectives aligned with the overall strategic plan for ECHO Diabetes. This position helps identify and implement best practices for community-based health coaches and coordinates a multifaceted program across multiple geographic catchment areas in Florida. This position helps build and maintain strong community partnerships and identifies, evaluates, supports, and solves complex issues related to the operation of ECHO Diabetes. The DSCs host community events, and this position provides leadership and oversight for the planning and implementation of all community events that are sponsored by the ECHO Diabetes program. This position bridges the community outreach efforts with the clinical and research efforts that are also part of ECHO Diabetes by regularly communicating and documenting program activity outcomes to other members of the ECHO Diabetes leadership group (and through attending twice-monthly tele-ECHO sessions).
Budget and Management
This position manages DSC equipment and supplies that are provided by ECHO Diabetes funding (i.e., laptops, cellphones, tablets) to ensure all property is maintained and accounted for. This position also manages budgets for the DSC program, which includes ECHO Diabetes-funded community outreach events. This position prepares and submits purchase orders for community events and ensures all UF fiscal protocols are followed (i.e., using approved vendors and covering only allowable expenses). This position attends monthly budget meetings with the PI and UF fiscal teams to report on DSC program spending.
Reporting and Compliance
Oversees all reporting, evaluation, and compliance functions for the ECHO Diabetes program. The position ensures compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, UF research ethics, and data privacy regulations. Collaborates with faculty and research staff on evaluation efforts and contributes to grant reporting and renewal activities, helping demonstrate program effectiveness and support continued funding.

| Preferred: |
A master’s degree in public health (MPH), Health Administration (MHA), Social Work, Education, or a related discipline is preferred. Experience in program management, community health, or healthcare delivery is highly desirable. Background knowledge or prior experience in diabetes care and clinical care settings for diabetes is strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and community partners, and proven capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.
