Job Description:

The Department of Epidemiology is seeking a part-time OPS Biostatistics Analyst. This position will be responsible for verifying and cleaning longitudinal datasets and merging behavioral, clinical, and biomedical variables. This individual will assist the PI with aligning data formats and statistical assumptions. This position is key to driving innovating health sciences research throughout the department and will work with a variety of collaborators to collect, analyze and interpret conclusions for data.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Data Cleaning & Architecture
  • Verify and clean longitudinal datasets, merge behavioral, clinical, and biomedical variables
  • Implement reproducible data pipelines in R and SAS/STATA (data dictionaries, code versioning).
Statistical Modeling & Inference
  • Design and implement a spectrum of analytic approaches, including:
    • Cross-sectional and multivariable analyses
    • Longitudinal mixed-effects models (linear, generalized linear) to evaluation change over time
    • Data-science techniques such as random forests, gradient-boost trees, LASSO/elastic-net regularization, and unsupervised clustering to uncover complex, high-dimensional patterns
    • Dimensionality-reduction techniques such as PCA, t-SNE, UMAP and feature-selection pipelines to prepare data for predictive modeling.
  • Validate models via cross-validation, bootstrapping, and by assessing model assumptions and diagnostics.
Visualization & Reporting
  • Generate publication-ready figures and tables with appropriate statistical annotations
  • Draft methods sections for manuscript and grant proposals
Collaboration & Communication
  • Coordinate with the Bioinformatics Analyst, Graduate Research Assistants, and Faculty to align data formats and statistical assumptions
  • Attend weekly team meetings and present analytic findings 

Expected Salary:

$25 - $35 per hour; salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related field. 

Proficiency in R and SAS macro programming.

Strong analytic reasoning, documentation, and ability to communicate complex methods/results clearly.

Experience analyzing longitudinal, multi-domain datasets

Prior exposure to clinical studies, especially longitudinal designs.

Familiarity with data-sharing platforms (REDcap, dbGap) and version control (Git).

Schedule: This is a part-time position at 20 hours per week. Hours may be flexible within the week but are expected to happen between normal business hours of Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm.
