Job Description:

Responsible for quality assurance, facility and equipment inspections, and coordinating custodial services during peak cleaning periods

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee custodial services for residence halls including daily operations and peak period workflow and conference operations ensuring service levels, staffing coverage, and cleaning schedules align with operational needs
  • Provide oversight and leadership for custodial services quality assurance, quality control, and lead efforts for building inspections; Perform individual room inspections
  • Direct and monitor inspection activities conducted by custodial supervisors; review inspection results, support accurate documentation, and work with supervisors to ensure timely follow-up and ongoing improvements
  • Ensure custodial supervisors conduct regular equipment inspections to verify sanitation, safe operation, and appropriate preventative maintenance practices
  • Oversee equipment usage and documentation processes to support accurate tracking of equipment condition, cleaning routines, and the timely reporting of maintenance or repair needs.
  • Use inspection data to identify patterns, address ongoing issues, and make informed decisions about operational changes, staff coaching, and resources.
  • Develop and review reports related to custodial performance, staffing, inspections, and service outcomes as needed
  • Lead or support special projects and initiatives that improve custodial services operations, day-to-day practices, and overall efficiency.

Custodial Technology, Equipment & Resource Management

  • Lead inventory management for custodial supplies, tools, equipment, and restroom products across assigned facilities; assess usage trends, authorize orders as needed, and ensure responsible stewardship of departmental resources.
  • Coordinate vendor-led demonstrations and training related to custodial equipment, products, and cleaning methods, ensuring practices align with departmental standards, safety requirements, and operational needs.
  • Evaluate custodial products and equipment for safety, effectiveness, ease of use, and cost, and recommend updates or replacements as appropriate.
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are current, accessible, and reviewed regularly with staff to promote chemical safety awareness, regulatory compliance, and safe work practices.
  • Oversee inventory control practices to ensure responsible stewardship of departmental supplies, equipment, and assets

Staff leadership and administrative management

  • Supervise staff including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development
  • Provide leadership in establishing goals, work priorities, and outcomes
  • Manage administrative functions including HR compliance, payroll approval, and performance review processes.
  • Advise on budget requests for area and allocate resources to support departmental priorities.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, dissemination, and enforcement of unit/departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency, and compliance within areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee the effective use of information systems (e.g. AiM, Housing Management Software) and corresponding information utilized in area operations and departmental processes
  • Serve in after hours on-call rotation as senior level consult providing guidance on response and follow-up to emergencies for Custodial Services; approve on-call schedule changes
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations at all times; maintain safety data (SDS) notebook and provide regular reviews for custodial staff
  • Coordinate and ensure proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed to satisfactorily complete assigned work

Perform custodial duties as needed

  • Responsible for performing custodial tasks including but not limited to: sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies, disposal of trash, cleaning ceiling tiles and vents, cleaning windows and walls, vacuuming and shampooing carpets
  • Perform heavy cleaning tasks such as stripping, sealing, and waxing of hard surface floors
  • Perform occasional room set-up and/or breakdown (including moving furniture) as directed for scheduled events as needed

Develop reports, handle special projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned

  • Serve on Division of Student Life or University of Florida committees as needed
  • Operates state vehicles

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience .

Valid driver's license required. 

Preferred:

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ten years of experience with custodial operations or large-scale residential, commercial or academic facilities
  • Minimum four years of full-time supervisory experience leading a team
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements, including chemical handling standards
  • Knowledge of quality assurance programs, inspections, and performance monitoring methods
  • Knowledge of inventory control, equipment lifecycle management, and responsible resource stewardship

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g. work order management systems, Microsoft Office)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with various levels of staff and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to oversee custodial operations across multiple facilities including workflows during routine operations, peak periods, and emergency operations
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with staff, residents, campus partners, and vendors.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multi-faceted environment
