Candidates for this faculty rank shall be qualified for the rank of associate professor and, in addition, be a recognized national or international authority or an outstanding teacher in their field or specialization. Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is searching to identify a Medical Director (MD) of Strategic Initiatives for the UF Veterinary Hospital (UFVH) that will focus on special projects designed to improve patient care, client communications, hospital culture, or other directives of the Associate Deans of Clinical Services, consistent with the mission of the college and university. Those activities for which the MD will have primary or shared responsibility include:

  • The MD will assist in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives/projects.  These projects will be at the direction of the ADCS (SA/LA) based on the needs of the hospital and could involve a variety of areas including patient care, client relations, wellness, communications, educational programs, hospital culture, or other areas deemed to be important to hospital operations. 
  • The MD will take primary responsibility for researching, organizing, and carrying out the strategic initiatives as directed by the ADCS (SA/LA).
  • The MD will assure compliance with federal/state veterinary practice regulations and college and University of Florida policies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the integrated professional, technical, and administrative principles and procedures of clinical practice.

  • Ability to provide clinical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in their area of expertise.
  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short-and long-range goals.

This position will report to the department chair for their faculty assignment (75% SACS/CDPM/LACS) and the ADCS (SA/LA) for the MD assignment (25% SAH/LAH). The department chair and CMO will work together to determine the specific administrative FTE for this position. The department chair completes the annual evaluation with input from the ADCS (SA and LA) on performing the administrative duties. The term for this medical director position is 3 years, with potential for renewal.

Expected Salary:

Rank and salary will be commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications: DVM, VMD, or equivalent foreign veterinary degree plus at least three years of clinical experience. Active clinician in the UFVH at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher (clinical or tenure track).

Preferred:

Desired Qualifications: Experience leading teams, with a commitment to building consensus, collaboration, and professionalism. Demonstrates creative and innovative problem‑solving skills and reliably sees projects through to timely completion.
