Job Description:

The Department of Neurology’s Aging, Behavioral & Cognitive (ABC) Division is seeking an experienced Clinical Research Lab Manager to lead and support a dynamic portfolio of neuroscience research initiatives. The successful candidate will oversee complex research operations, including coordinating the implementation of fMRI research within the DMNI suite at the Fixel Institute, and will serve as a key liaison among UF Health, Radiology, the Fixel Institute, the McKnight Brain Institute, and the Department of Neurology.

This role provides operational leadership for both privately and industry-funded research projects while supporting principal investigators in advancing the mission of the ABC Division. The Lab Manager will also play an important role in mentoring and supervising research coordinators as well as graduate and undergraduate students involved in the division’s research programs.

Research Study Operations & Coordination

Lead the day-to-day operations of clinical research studies within the Department of Neurology, with a primary focus on memory and aging research. This role supports multidisciplinary projects ranging from biomarker investigations to Phase I through post-market clinical research conducted in outpatient settings at the Fixel Center for Neurological Diseases and the McKnight Brain Institute.

Key responsibilities include participant screening and recruitment, maintaining databases of current and prospective participants, administering research questionnaires and standardized cognitive and motor assessments, and performing blood draws (phlebotomy). The incumbent coordinates ancillary research services such as imaging and diagnostic procedures and ensures accurate data entry within clinical trial management systems.

This position also monitors study compliance by reporting adverse events and protocol deviations to appropriate regulatory bodies. The incumbent serves as a primary liaison among collaborating institutions including Johns Hopkins University, the UF Fixel Institute, UF Radiology, and the McKnight Brain Institute. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs), training investigators and research staff on study design and regulatory requirements, and serving as a resource for research teams to address operational challenges.

Research Team Supervision & Program Management

Supervise and mentor research coordinators, graduate students, and undergraduate students within the Department of Neurology. Responsibilities include overseeing training, implementing quality control processes, and maintaining SOPs to ensure consistency in analytical and research procedures.

The incumbent manages regulatory documentation and subject source materials, maintains study regulatory binders, and ensures adherence to study protocols and local and federal regulations, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ICH standards. This role supports investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored research by assisting investigators in understanding contractual obligations and meeting regulatory requirements.

Additional responsibilities include developing and maintaining research databases, implementing quality assurance processes for collected data, and supporting advanced research methodologies such as fMRI scanning workflows and behavioral assessment tools. The role also contributes to expanding research capabilities within the Fixel DMNI suite, coordinating with UF Health, UF Radiology, and the McKnight Brain Institute to integrate novel experimental and imaging protocols. Collaboration with multiple university departments and external partners supports the implementation of emerging research technologies and analytical methods.

Research Development & Faculty Support

Promote and facilitate clinical and basic science research initiatives within the Department of Neurology in collaboration with the College of Medicine. Provide guidance to faculty, fellows, and investigators regarding study design, research methodology, and funding opportunities from federal, state, and private sources.

Assist with the preparation of research presentations, manuscripts, and grant-related documentation. Support regulatory reporting requirements and serve as a point of contact for fellows, residents, and external collaborators interested in research partnerships within the department.

Strategic Operations, Compliance & Collaboration

Represent the Department of Neurology at research meetings and study conferences while fostering strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. Assist with financial and operational oversight of research activities, including monitoring budgets, coordinating billing processes, and ensuring responsible use of research funding.

Oversee quality control systems to maintain data integrity and regulatory compliance. Support data management initiatives by maintaining structured research data repositories and ensuring adherence to institutional and federal data-sharing requirements.

Must have a valid Florida drivers license.

Expected Salary:

$75,000 - $78,000; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with clinical trials in UF COM
  • Masters degree in Neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology or related field
  • Experience in neuropsych test administration
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • It is critical that this individual be able to work both independently with modest direction and as part of a team.
  • Reliability, flexibility, professional manner, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and record keeping.
  • Must be able to problem solve, prioritize responsibilities, and manage several priorities at once.
