| Job Description: |
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Tina Izard at UF Scripps in Jupiter, Florida. We seek a motivated scientist to make discoveries in projects at the interface of structural biology, membrane biophysics, and cell adhesion signaling, with emphasis on how receptors and adhesion complexes are regulated by lipid interactions, membrane organization, and mechanics. Research in the lab spans integrins, GPCRs, and related membrane-associated signaling systems.
The successful candidate will join a well-equipped structural biology program focused on single particle cryoEM, X ray crystallography, protein biochemistry, membrane reconstitution, and quantitative biophysics. The lab has dedicated access to a cryoARM300 300 kV microscope with a Gatan K3 detector, as well as crystallographic infrastructure including SER-CAT access at APS and on-site X-ray instrumentation. This position offers the opportunity to drive ambitious mechanistic projects with excellent instrument access, strong mentorship, and a clear path to high-impact publication.
Research areas may include
- Single particle cryoEM of membrane proteins and adhesion complexes
- Protein lipid interactions and membrane reconstitution using nanodiscs, liposomes, monolayers, or related systems
- Structure function analysis by X-ray crystallography, biochemistry, and biophysics
- Integration of structural work with cellular or infection/immunity-based readouts where appropriate
Qualifications
- Recent PhD in structural biology
- Strong background in protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization
- Experience in cryoEM, X ray crystallography, or both
- Interest in membrane proteins, lipid systems, and quantitative mechanistic biology
- Strong organizational and communication skills
What we offer
- Access to state-of-the-art structural biology infrastructure, including the cryoARM300
- Opportunity to lead an independent, high-visibility project
- Collaborative environment with close interaction with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience
- Outstanding core facilities supporting genomics, proteomics, chemistry, informatics, and screening
Location and quality of life
The institute is located in Jupiter, Florida, a vibrant coastal community in Northern Palm Beach County with year-round sunshine, beaches, outdoor recreation, and no state income tax.
The area offers an attractive quality of life and a growing biomedical research environment, including close interaction with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience.
