Job Description:
Internal Communications/Public Relations
  • Plans, compiles, and distributes the weekly University of Florida News online newsletter.
  • Develops, seeks out and recommends opportunities to support and enhance internal communications, including new or improved tools, sources, methods, etc.
  • Works with student intern(s), Student Life, and other entities across campus to generate positive institutional coverage.
  • Writes and edits collateral materials that support unit priorities and goals including but not limited to on-hold and marquee messages, memos, email messages, website content, brochures, and advertising copy/scripts.
  • Serves as a member of the University’s Crisis Communications Team.

External Communications/Media Relations

  • Primary point of contact for local media; responds to all inquiries in a timely and
  • customer-focused manner, providing information and/or directing questions to appropriate sources, experts or contacts for public statements.
  • Coordinates reactive media response for journalists from media news outlets which may include print, video, online and social media.
  • Coordinates with local media to generate positive coverage for UF to advance the overall UF mission.
  • May coordinate and/or assist with news conferences and other media activities.
Website & Program Management
  • Research Promotion Initiative (RPI): Leads administration of the university’s research promotion initiative (RPI) overseeing its publicity, communicating with researchers, facilitating biweekly meetings, reviewing submissions, and working with finance to ensure payments to researchers.
  • Experts Website: Oversees the university’s Experts web portal; serves as the point-person with Expert File, ensures that spotlight articles are regularly refreshed, and inputs new submissions in an accurate and timely - manner. Creates and/or seeks opportunities to expand awareness of the Experts website with internal stakeholders, as well as externally with reporters and various target audiences.
  • Other Websites/Portals: Maintains and edits web content on microsites.
  • Reviews ads and other materials for brand alignment, grammar, spelling and factual content on the UF News, Wellness, and Statements webpages.
  • Reviews and distributes UF administrative memos.
Other
Updates and distributes the Strategic Communications and Marketing (SCM) Content Calendar, compiles analytics, and coordinates Salesforce and media sends as needed. May facilitate SCM communication team content meetings. Other duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:

$53,000 - $60,000 commensurate with education and experience 

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred:
  • A master’s or bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or related field and two or more years of professional experience preferred.
  • Experience in development and implementation of public relations campaigns, editorial planning, writing, editing, social media, video production, and/or project management coordination.
  • Experience with communicating scientific discoveries.
  • Proficiency in Associated Press style required.
  • The ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments independently for self and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and/or work as part of a team toward organizational objectives.

This position is located at our office in Gainesville and is considered "essential" which may require the incumbent to be on campus during crises and weather events affecting the university.
