Management and administration of the Core General Surgery Residency Program, Education and Assessment Responsibilities for the Department of Surgery. Assists with the preparation for ACGME requirements for the residency program and assists the Program Director and Associate Program Director in their efforts to meet these goals.
Maintain accurate and thorough academic records on all trainees, past and present.
In collaboration with the Program Directors and primary General Surgery Coordinator, assist with the monitoring and documentation of resident progress toward meeting their program-specific milestones using New Innovations and other methods of evaluation and assessment.
In collaboration with the Program Directors and primary General Surgery Coordinator, assist with the development of educational materials and classroom/laboratory needs to ensure effective educational sessions.
In collaboration with the Program Directors and Associate Program Directors, construct and monitor effective methods of assessment of resident proficiency.
Improve the use of information technology for educational purposes within the department, including educational webpages for training programs.
Coordinate resident/fellow/medical student clinical rotation schedule and educational conferences, and track attendance. Coordinate skills laboratory experiences and schedules for surgical residents.
Maintain inventory of skills lab supplies.
Secure and distribute supplies for housestaff as needed.
Coordinates and plans all ACGME required meetings including the Clinical Competency Committee meetings, Program evaluation committee meetings, and application review committee meetings.
Attends regular meetings with PD, APDs and residents for check-ins throughout the academic year.
Assists the primary General Surgery Coordinator with the collection and submission of all required documentation on an annual, semi-annual or monthly basis to the Graduate Medical Education office for the core General Surgery program.
Reviews and monitors all duty hour submissions and documentation for the 50+ residents in the General Surgery Program.
Technical Management of Programs
Responsible for EPA data management for all surgery residents and maintain graduation data.
Ability to organize and prepare accurate documentation of program compliance with ACGME defined program requirements, aid in preparing ACGME annual updates, and provide progress reports when necessary.
Assist with the preparation and execution of ACGME self-study and site visits. Working closely with the Assistant Director of Education and the Graduate Medical Education office this position is responsible for gathering all required documents requested by the ACGME and is in attendance of site visits as they occur.
Must be knowledgeable of rules and regulations on housestaff leave, and maintain accurate records of resident leave and hours on duty.
Develops and implements educational initiatives for residents. Provides recommendations for enhancements.
Assists in the planning and execution of a robust two-week orientation schedule for interns (Gen Surg, Urology, OMFS, and Integrated Plastics and TCV) prior to starting. This includes creating the schedule with faculty involvement, setting up individual labs or lectures, and purchasing of materials or food as needed.
Coordinates and attends weekly didactic sessions. Assists the PD and APD in developing the curriculum schedule and sends out reminders for each event.
Assists with the implementation of Surgical courses both onsite and offsite. These include ASSET, ATOM and cadaver labs.
Transplant Fellowship Management
Responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, and oversight of the transplant fellows.
Assists with the US Nationals and International medical grads in the process of getting medical licenses, onboarded and credentialed at the hospital to perform transplant surgery training.
Works with the, program director and GME office to make sure the Transplant fellowship remains in compliance with institutional regulations and ASTS accreditation requirements.
Global Health Rotation
Assists with the documentation, preparation, and planning for general surgery residents to rotate at international sites.
Manages the PLA Process, ABS and ACGME approval process, and assists with the travel process.
Communicates with international sites to assist international residents and medical students to rotate within the Department of Surgery.
Administrative
Customer service: respond to inquiries via email or phone regarding the surgery residency programs.
Assist with the processing of appointments for new residents/fellows, as needed.
Is responsible for administering the ABSITE exams in the Department.
Prepare travel and reimbursements for residency-related travel and surgery education expenses.
Assists in the training of incoming members of the education team as they learn the financial systems such as UF GO.
Coordinate schedules, distribute and collect evaluations, and maintain attendance records for CME-awarding regularly scheduled conference series.
Assist residents/fellows/medical students with their other training and educational needs, when appropriate.
