Post Doctoral Associate

Job Description:

A Post-doctoral Associate position is available in the field of experimental astrophysics to work on the SuperCDMS SNOLAB experiment led by Dr. Tarek Saab in the Department of Physics.

We have a position available in our group to work on simulations, operations and data analysis for the SuperCDMS experiment.

Candidates must have PhD  in experimental particle physics, experimental astrophysics, or related research areas, by the time of the appointment. This position will be initially awarded for one year, and, contingent upon strong performance and conduct and availability of funds, may be renewed for up to three years.

SuperCDMS is a direct-detection dark matter search experiment that looks for dark matter particles interacting in cryogenic germanium and silicon detectors equipped with sensors that detect the thermal energy released in the interactions. The SuperCDMS Collaboration has a history of world-leading dark matter results. The next-generation experiment, featuring novel detector upgrades, is currently being installed in SNOLAB, located 2 km underground in the Vale Creighton Mine near Sudbury. The science goals of the international collaboration include world-leading sensitivity to a variety of dark matter candidates and masses. SuperCDMS’s cryogenic technology enables extremely low detection thresholds, while SNOLAB provides a very low-background environment. We have a position available in our group to work on simulations, and operations of the SuperCDMS experiment, participation in on-site shifts and off-site data quality monitoring, as well as leading the analysis of first SuperCDMS physics data. Additional duties will consist of organizing meetings, documenting software, and reviewing and authoring internal reports as well as published papers.

Advertised Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

PhD in experimental particle physics, experimental astrophysics

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with cryogenic detectors, low-background particle searches, computing / analysis / statistical techniques

Special Instructions to Applicants:
