| Job Description: |
The Communications Assistant works under the supervision of the Communications Specialist to support the development and execution of digital content for the Florida Museum of Natural History. This position assists with creating and assembling text, images and video content for use on Museum website projects, image galleries, marketing email layouts, and social media posts. This position assists with gathering analytics data for use in further analysis and supports basic maintenance tasks such as email list upkeep and website accessibility optimization as needed. This role also assists with the organization and maintenance of the Museum’s digital asset management system. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively with constituents, museum staff, and supervisors both in writing and in person, remain well organized, follow direction and complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
Website Content
• Assists with creating and maintaining content on the Museum’s website. • Uses existing text, images and videos to support the development of website pages, galleries and other digital projects. • Assists with maintenance tasks like reviewing, updating and archiving content, and supports website accessibility updates in accordance with established standards.
Email Marketing • Assists with email marketing campaigns by combining text, images and other media into compelling email layouts using predesigned templates. • Supports basic email list maintenance tasks including monitoring bounce reports and list membership as directed.
Video Production • Assists in creating video content by combining text, video and still photography for use on digital communication platforms such as social media accounts and website projects, following direction from the Communication Specialist.
Analytics Collection • Assists with gathering and compiling analytics data to support analysis of visitor behavior and usage of social media channels, email campaigns and their interactions with the Museum website. • May be tasked with ongoing monthly data collection and recording, as well as gathering data and information for individual projects and reports.
Digital Asset Management Organization • Assists with the organization and maintenance of the digital asset management system, including filing new assets, adding tags and descriptions, and updating data according to established procedures.
Social Media Content • Drafts suggested social media content based on current campaign needs, including text, imagery and video content. Submits content to Communications Specialist for review and revision prior to posting.
Special Projects • Assists with special projects and other related duties as assigned in support of the Communications team.

| Expected Salary: |
Starting salary $43,000, commensurate with education and experience

| Required Qualifications: |
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

| Preferred: |

Familiarity with web design and publishing concepts, SEO and web traffic metrics

Experience using WordPress sites, themes and plugins

Experience with Google tools such as Analytics and Search Console

Experience with shooting and editing video for social media

Familiarity with basic graphic design as well as photo editing, correcting and optimization using software such as Adobe Photoshop

Familiarity using email and social media scheduling, monitoring and engagement tools

Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel

Experience with Digital Asset Management systems

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to translate technical concepts for a general audience

Excellent project management skills with ability to keep track of small details

Experience working in a natural history museum environment and familiarity with anthropological and biological science terms and concepts
