Job Description:

Artificial Intelligence Academic Initiatives (AI2) Center team, a unit within UFIT, is currently seeking an intermediate level AI Education Specialist.

A pivotal member of the Artificial Intelligence Academic Initiatives (AI2) Center team, the AI Education Instructional Designer II designs, develops, and conducts artificial intelligence (AI) professional development programs, courses and/or workshops. 

As the landscape of our workforce and education evolves with the advent of advanced AI technologies, there is a growing need for educators to be well-equipped to understand, teach, and ethically integrate AI technologies and applications into their curriculum. This position is at the forefront of this endeavor.

In this role, the Specialist will not only focus on the theoretical and practical aspects of AI but also delve into the ethical and moral implications of its use in academic settings. This position will work closely with AI2 Center leadership to support AI teaching excellence. Create interactive trainings that enables educators to critically engage with AI technologies, understand their broader impacts, apply them to their courses, and help prepare learning experiences for instructors. This position calls for a self-motivated professional who can work independently, prioritize tasks efficiently, and consistently uphold rigorous quality control standards. 

  • Delivery of AI Professional Development : Present and facilitate AI professional development programs, courses, and workshops for faculty and instructors from diverse disciplines, emphasizing theoretical knowledge and practical applications of AI for education. Act as a content expert and support for AI faculty learning communities (FLC). Organize workshops, seminars, and training sessions specifically for educators, focusing on effective pedagogical strategies to integrate AI and academic integrity into their teaching. Advise faculty on meaningful inclusion of AI within their teaching practice and extended curricula. 

 

  • Development & Design of Modules and Learning Aids : Use and apply established instructional design principles and pedagogy to design AI trainings, courses, and workshops for a breadth of educators and educational contexts in higher education. Model best practices and optimal learning strategies for the incorporation of AI into learning environments. Develop AI course sites, online modules, learning aids, and materials to support learning experiences. Create and distribute pedagogical resources, including instructional materials and multimedia content, to enhance faculty’s capability to teach AI concepts.  

 

  • Research in AI Education Methods : Act as a resource person for faculty, assisting them in addressing challenges related to teaching AI and maintaining academic integrity. Set up faculty development networks or communities of practice focused on AI education, where faculty can exchange ideas, strategies, and experiences. Support and consult with UF faculty interested in conducting scholarship of teaching and learning projects about AI in their learning contexts. Keep abreast of the latest advancements in AI technologies and their impact on various industries. Regularly inform and update faculty with pertinent insights, research findings, and practical applications of AI that can be integrated into their teaching methods.

Expected Salary:

$65,000 - $70,000; commensurate based on education and experience. 

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.  

Preferred:

The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience, and skills:

  • Demonstrable instructional design / professional development training experience.
  • Proficiency with learning/course management systems and platforms
  • Practical knowledge of AI applications in a variety of educational contexts.
  • Understanding of fundamental concepts underlying AI technologies and awareness of ethical considerations related to AI in educational settings.
  • Knowledgeable about learning theories and teaching methodologies as they apply to educator professional development.
  • Experience in visual design and the integration of multimedia tools used to facilitate online education.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent intrapersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in Adobe, Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.  Ease with learning new programs and competence in project management skills is desired.
