The UF Small Animal Hospital is recruiting a motivated, organized, and compassionate Blood Bank Veterinary Technician to join our elite Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) service in beautiful Gainesville, Florida.

Forget working overnight shifts and missing out on life. This position offers an incredible Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM schedule (with only occasional variations for hospital needs).

What You’ll Do:
As the cornerstone of our Small Animal Blood Bank, you aren't just running tests, you are saving lives, managing a unique community program, and shaping the future of veterinary medicine.
Your days will be dynamic, engaging, and deeply impactful:
• 40% Blood Donor Program Management & Clinical Collections: You’ll run our canine and feline donor programs! From scheduling "happy visits" for our superhero canine donors to managing our pampered feline colony (complete with an outdoor cat patio, cat robot toys, and a customized enrichment setup). You’ll also coordinate the heartwarming adoption process for our retiring donors.
• 25% Blood Component Processing & Inventory Control: Show off your advanced laboratory skills. You’ll process whole blood into life-saving components (PRBC, FFP, autotransfusion kits, and ophthalmic serum) while managing our cutting-edge inventory, supply chain, and billing systems.
• 15% Instruction, Mentorship & Public Relations: Be the expert! You will teach and demonstrate transfusion techniques to eager veterinary students, interns, residents, and faculty. Plus, you'll drive our public relations, featuring our incredible donors in Facebook spotlights and sending "Thank You" notes to clients letting them know how their pet saved a life.
• 10% Safety, Facility Maintenance & Quality Assurance: Keep our state-of-the-art facility pristine, compliant, and running smoothly.
• 5% Continuing Education & Professional Development: We invest in you. You’ll attend professional conferences (like the UF TECH conference), earn your CE credits, and even help your peers with their VTS applications.

What You Bring to the Team:
We are looking for a standalone superstar who possesses advanced clinical judgment, meticulous organization, and top-tier communication skills.
Minimum Requirements:
• Must be a Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT/LVMT).
• Physical capability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and stand, bend, or kneel for extended periods during prolonged collection procedures.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:
• Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program.
• Elite phlebotomy and IV catheter placement skills.
• Strong background in animal nursing and critical care.
• Familiarity with veterinary software (Cornerstone, MediaLab) and standard lab equipment.
• A calm, professional demeanor capable of thriving and communicating effectively in a bustling hospital environment.

Expected Salary:

This is a CARE position offering limited benefits, including health insurance and paid time off.  When appropriate certifications are achieved, promotional opportunities to a level II title may be available.  This position will also become eligible for transition into a TEAMS (staff) salary plan.
