Job Description:

The Office of Advancement is hiring part-time Student Assistants to work on the Facilities Event Management team during the summer, fall and spring semesters.    

 

This opportunity is ideal for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in the event management field while developing valuable, real-world professional skills. Training will include, but is not limited to, customer service, communication, event coordination, and the day-to-day processes involved in maintaining and operating one of the University of Florida’s most sought-after meeting and event facilities. Given the volume and diversity of clientele served by Emerson Alumni Hall, student assistants will have numerous opportunities to interact with a wide range of professionals, expand their networks, and gain experiences that will enhance their resumes and prepare them for future career opportunities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Special Events Student Assistant supports the Facilities Event Management team and reports directly to the Senior Event Coordinator of Emerson Alumni Hall (EAH). The student Assistant is responsible for the setup and strike of events held at EAH, including the physical setup and movement of tables, chairs, and other event equipment. Responsibilities may also include basic audio/visual setup and operation, as well as providing on-site support and assistance to clients throughout their events.

In addition to event-related responsibilities, Student Assistants provide administrative and operational support to the Facilities Event Management team, including clerical tasks, errands, and assisting with the daily on-site operations of Emerson Alumni Hall.  Successful candidates should be detail-oriented and possess strong written and verbal communication skills, along with basic computer proficiency.

WORK SCHEDULES

The student’s work schedule will vary from week to week based on event and operational needs and may include occasional Saturday shifts. Work schedules will be provided on a bi-weekly basis. Requests for time off should be submitted in writing at least two weeks in advance of the requested date.

Expected Salary:

$14.00 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Preferred:
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous experience in event management, specifically in setup/teardown of events
  • Audio visual equipment experience
  • Knowledgeable in Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Internet browsers, E-mail
